Are You Salty?

Oh my gosh!!!

Why is it I have never seen this before today?
Mark 9:49-50

49 Everyone will be salted with fire.50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” –

Mark 9:49-50

Do you understand what this is saying?

Let’s look at this closer:

The passage that I am actually familiar with is found in Matthew 5:13.

It says, “you are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled by men.”

Jesus Christ asked a question:
“If salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?”

I promise you for a long time as I have heard that verse spoken about it was presented as if salt cannot be made salty again, but just now as I was working on another writing, I stumbled across the answer.

According to the gospel of Mark, in chapter 9, Jesus gave us the answer to that question.

Let’s consider that answer right now:

1. The gospel writer Matthew tells us that we are the salt of the earth.

2. The gospel writer Mark tells us that everyone is salted with fire, and that the salt is good.

3. The gospel writer Peter tells gives us even more clarity at 1st Peter 4:12-13. Listen:

Beloved do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when his glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding Joy.

So the question that Matthew asked, how can salt that loses its saltiness be made salty again, is answered by Mark.

We are salted through trials.

So anyone, because we are the salt, who loses their saltiness is sent through the fire.

Regarding this, the prophet Zechariah wrote, “This third I will bring into the fire: I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I would say, they are my people, and they will say, the Lord is my God.

This is not something that is to be taken lightly because here we are saying YES to the Lord. Here we are entering into a covenant relationship with the Lord, similar to a marital relationship. Thus, the jealousy that we spoke of earlier today in a separate post.

If you lose your saltiness, can you be re-salted?

I would encourage you to also take time to understand the jealousy of Yahweh because you must understand that when you say yes to the Lord, this is no small matter.

The Jealousy of Yahweh

Having considered all, will you respond to the invitation of the Lord with a YES?
