Have you ever been in a relationship with a person where you had enough of the disrespect and you just wanted to divorce and be done with it?
Do you know how it feels to have a broken heart?
Imagine that this is what God feels in reference to us.
Imagine that all this time we have been in a relationship with God but we didn’t really pay attention to it.
We didn’t really communicate with God apart from the formalities of prayer.
We didn’t think upon his name.
Imagine being in a relationship with someone who doesn’t speak to you.
Imagine being in a relationship with someone who ignores you as if you don’t exist.
Now read the major and minor prophets:
You have rejected me,” declares the Lord. “You keep on backsliding. So I will reach out and destroy you; I am tired of holding back. – Jeremiah 15:6 NIV
Can you see the broken heart?
Do you understand the pain you and I have inflicted upon the Lord?
If you can feel that pain.
If you know what that pain feels like.
If you feel sorry about the role you have individually played.
If it was never your intent
If you didn’t know this was happening…
God tells us what to do.
REPENT
Have you ever loved someone so much, and that person hurt you so deeply, yet when they apologized from the depths of their heart, you accepted their apology because you really did love them?
That is the love God has for us.
Just like you know the difference between a true apology and one that isn’t real, so too, God knows the difference.
He knows our heart.
He knows the truth.
When we are true, oh how God restores us…
