Psa 119:9-10 ESV
How can a young person maintain a pure life? By guarding it according to your instructions!
With all my heart I seek you. Do not allow me to stray from your commands!
What does it mean to SEEK God?
what is hidden can only be found by those who SEEK and what we find when we SEEK is so amazing

What led me to consider this is what I learned about both Noah and Moses.

In order to find something, we must first look for it (aka, “seek” it). But, in order to seek something we must first acknowledge that there is a need. That acknowledgment, we learned in the first eight verses of Psalm 119, is the first step to being blessed.
(If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to read what was written in the consideration of Psalm 119: 1-8 about what it means to be blessed. )
We learned that to be blessed we need to position ourselves in the presence of the Lord where we can be taught and instructed by the Lord.
So, while in Psalm 119:9 we are told that to keep our way pure we must guard it according to the Word of the Lord, it is in Psalm 119:10 where we learn “how” to seek the Lord
- It is to be done with our whole heart. (This is because when our heart is half in something we won’t give it our all.)
- It is to be done by digging into the laws, rules, commands, statutes, testimonies, and precepts of the Lord.
We need to store the Word of God in our heart so that we do not sin against God we are told at Psalm 119:11

Why? Because the Lord is blessed, so we should want the Lord to teach us so that we can be blessed too

It is in the House of God (BET) that we learn
- Rules – one of a set of understood regulations governing conduct
- Laws – a system of rules which regulate the actions of its members
- Commandments – an authoritative order, a divine rule
- Precepts – a general rule governing behavior or thoughts
- Orders – a state in which laws and rules which regulate behavior are obeyed and observed
- Statutes – a written law
- Testimonies – a formal written or spoken statement given in a court of law
- Decrees – an official order issued by a legal authority
- Regulations – a rule or directive made and maintained by an authority
Let’s consider now

Psalm 119:9-16
New American Bible Revised Editions
9How can the young keep his way without fault?
Only by observing your words.
10With all my heart I seek you;
do not let me stray from your commandments.
11In my heart I treasure your promise,
that I may not sin against you.
12Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes.
13With my lips I recite
all the judgments you have spoken.
14I find joy in the way of your testimonies
more than in all riches.
15I will ponder your precepts
and consider your paths.
16In your statutes I take delight;
I will never forget your word.
- Psalm 119:9
tells us how to keep our way pure. Pure not perfect. There is a difference.

We are able to keep our way free from contamination and impurity, innocent and virtuous by guarding it according to God’s Word. Therefore, if we don’t guard our way, according to the Word of God, we run the risk of losing our virginity and becoming polluted because we have now become mixed with something else.
This is why it is important that we look at the definitions of what we are reading so that we can understand the magnitude of what we are being told.

In looking up the word pure, and the word virtuous, we can see the benefit of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
- Psalm 119:10
tells us to seek God with our whole heart and not wander from God’s comands.

- Psalm 119:11
reminds us to store God’s Word, which is our treasure, in our hearts. Understanding this helps us to better understand how to apply what King Jesus taught us about storing up our treasure.

- Psalm 119:12
We are a people who are always seeking resources, but there comes a time in life where we need to look to the Source instead of the resource. In this verse we are reminded to seek the Lord to teach us His statutes espectially if we want to be blessed.

Let’s not forget that a statute is a written law. Therefore, we need to seek the Lord to teach us His written word. HE tells us to ask Him.

- Psalm 119:13
What we hear is what we will speak aloud, recite, repeat from memory, speak in parrot-like fashion.

I just heard this in my Hebrew class where I am learning the Hebrew Aleph Bet. I learned that ל LAMED represents Learn and Teach. It is shaped like a throne. As we sit at the throne of God to learn, we will then go out and teach what we learned. The next letter is מ MEM which represents living water which will flow from us as we sit at the throne of God in the ב BET – House of God. So, yes, we will recite all of the judgments that we learned while sitting at the throne of God in the House of God.
- Psalm 119:14
Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life said that He came that we might have life more abundantly.

This is also what Jesus said

- Psalm 119:15
Precepts are general rules which are applicable in a broad range of situations. We are told to meditate upon them, to ponder them carefully. There is much to ponder over as found in God’s word such as love, forgiveness, and this one…

This is not even the tip of the iceberg of all of the precepts that we need to think deeply upon. However, it is a good place to start.
- Psalm 119:16
Last, but definitely not least, we should delight ourselves in God’s statutes (written laws) and not forget it.
As I go over Psalm 119:9-16, what I realized is that God is showing us how to keep our way pure and that this is by fixing our eyes on His way – on Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth, and the life.
Thinking deeply upon this I realize that we do not understand “way” even though we know how to use it in a sentence.
So let me help you.
A way is a method, style or manner of doing something. It is a characteristic or habitual manner of behavior or expression. It is a style, a means of entry or exit. Its like a door or gate.
When we fix our eyes on His way, we are paying attention to His character also remembering that Jesus is the door of entry or exit.
So, in conclusion, an examination and meditation on verses 9-16 of Psalm 119 reveals the following:
- We need to fix our eyes (vs 15)
- we need to store up (vs 11)
- We need to delight ourselves in (vs 14,16)
- We need to declare from our mouth (vs 13)
- We need to sit and allow ourselves to be taught (vs 12)
- We need to not allow wander (in thought or in body) (vs 10)
- We need to seek the Lord with ALL of our heart (vs 10)
- We need to guard our way – character, door entry and exit (vs 9)
This is done when we want to keep or maintain something.
Do you have any idea what one might want to keep or maintain after having gone over this?
I can tell you…
