The Lessons We Learn From the Games We Play: HOT POTATO

Have you ever played the game HOT POTATO?

How the game is played is 2 or more players stand in a circle and they pass an object from one player to another while someone who is not watching either sings

Hot Potato Hot Potato Hot Potato stop.

(If there is not one to sing the Hot Potato medley, you use a short musical snippet from the radio or television by which to play)

You pass the object from person to person as quickly as possible so as to not get caught with the object in your hand when the music stops.

I mention this game because as quickly as you try to release the object so that you are not caught holding it, that is how quickly ought and unforgiveness need to be released from your mind and heart.

Release people from your heart that you have held anything against. Free them and let them go from the ought you hold against them.

Better to do it now than to be caught holding onto unforgiveness at the arrival of King Jesus.

We are told that HE is coming as a thief in the night. HE will catch many unawares. He will catch many off guard.

Even I find myself searching to make sure that I am not holding anything against anyone.

Hot Potato, Hot Potato, Hot Potato, don’t get caught holding onto offense or unforgiveness.

I examine myself regularly. Not daily. (I probably should do so daily lol) But regularly I do examine myself just to make sure I am not holding onto something.

You see both offense and unforgiveness is like weeds. It can be hard to uproot. You might think that you uprooted it only to later find that a root was left behind that has sprouted. So we must regularly examine ourselves just like we must regularly wash in the Word of God.

Disclaimer:

When considering the lessons of the game Hot Potato which is to quickly let go, one thing that must be remembered is that in letting go, we are not passing our frustrations onto the next person for them to now have to let go. Instead, King Jesus gives us the following instructions for play

Alright Children of God, now that we have our instructions, let the games begin…
