Receiving and Walking

Let’s Start With the Word

“Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.” — Colossians 2:6

“I am the bread of life.” — John 6:35

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” — Proverbs 3:5

Let’s Take a Moment to Think About This

One of the simplest thoughts from this study stayed with me longer than I expected:

You receive first…
then you walk carrying what you received.

It reminded me of something ordinary and everyday. When someone stands in line waiting for food, eventually they receive it into their hands. Yet receiving the food is not the end of the process. After receiving it, they leave carrying what was given to them.

That small picture suddenly made Colossians 2:6 feel incredibly alive to me:
“As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.”

Receive.
Then walk.

Jesus called Himself the Bread of Life, and there is something deeply comforting about that imagery. Bread nourishes. Bread sustains. Bread strengthens people for the journey ahead.

Yet what touched me most was realizing that many of us want the comfort of receiving without fully understanding the invitation to continue walking afterward.

Receiving is the beginning.
Walking is the continuation.

Faith was never meant to remain a single emotional moment. It was meant to become a daily walk. A continuing relationship. A steady journey where what we received from God begins shaping how we live, think, respond, endure, and grow.

Sometimes we look for dramatic spiritual experiences while overlooking the quiet beauty of simply continuing to walk with Christ each day.

Walking through uncertainty.
Walking through healing.
Walking through waiting.
Walking through growth.
Walking through ordinary life while still carrying what Heaven placed within us.

That is what stood out to me most:
the importance of continuing.

Because there are moments where life becomes heavy and people feel tempted to put down what they once received. Discouragement, disappointment, delay, exhaustion, pressure, confusion—all of these things can make the journey feel long.

Yet Colossians does not simply say to receive Christ.
It says to walk in Him.

Not walk near Him occasionally.
Not visit Him emotionally once in a while.
Walk in Him.

There is intimacy in that kind of language. Closeness. Continuation. Dependence.

The more I reflected on it, the more I realized that walking with God is often quieter than people expect. Sometimes it looks less like dramatic moments and more like steady faithfulness.

Continuing to pray.
Continuing to trust.
Continuing to remain gentle.
Continuing to seek Him even when answers feel delayed.
Continuing to carry His Word through everyday life.

Small steps still matter.

Even slow walking is still walking.

There is comfort in knowing that God does not ask us to sprint through the journey perfectly. He simply invites us to continue walking with what we have received.

Step by step.
Day by day.
Grace upon grace.

Consider This

  1. Have there been seasons where you received from God but struggled with continuing the walk afterward?
  2. What does “walking in Him” look like in your current season of life?
  3. Are there areas where God may be inviting you to continue carrying what He has already placed within you?

Before You Go, Hold Onto This Thought

Receiving from God is beautiful, but the journey does not end there.

The same Christ you received is the One who walks with you daily through every season, every question, every victory, and every difficult moment. You do not have to carry the journey alone.

Just keep walking with Him.

Even slow steps forward are still steps forward.
